Biography

Râna holds a BA in Philosophy and Liberal Arts and an MRM in marine and coastal management, with a specialization in cultural resources. She has published independent sociocultural research and some microfiction, and has recently begun receiving attention in flash fiction contests.

Additionally, Râna’s works appear in the anthology under the pseudonyms Álfdís Regnbogadóttir (NOW TELL ME ABOUT THIS MAN WHO VISITS YOU in Monster), Poppy Seed (WITHOUT A SHIDDUCH THERE ARE MANY TROUBLES in Utopia/Dystopia), and Quiet Riot (CO-DEPENDENCY IS IMMORTAL AND BLOODTHIRSTY in Vampire).

BAM: Oh, really? Okay, here's an icebreaker for you, then. Could you tell me something? I've heard different names for Canadian French, even Québécois and just French. What do you locals say?

Râna: We just call it French. The terms "Canadian French" and "Québécois" do exist, but they don't refer to the same thing. Canadian French is any French spoken in Canada; there are lots of Francophone communities in Canada outside of the province of Québec, each with their own regional linguistic particularities. Québécois refers more to the cultural and political identity of people living in the province of Québec. I don't think I've ever heard it used as the name of a language; for a local to call French "Québécois" would be like for an American to call English "American."
